ANGEL CORELLA and the Men And Women of American Ballet


Angel Corella

angel_corella.jpgAngel Corella was born in Madrid in 1975. He began his ballet studies in Colmenar Viejo, and later studied in Madrid with Victor Ullate and Karemia Moreno.

In May 1991, Corella won First Prize in the National Ballet Competition of Spain. In December 1994, he won the Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the Concours International de Danse de Paris, dancing the pas de deux from Don Quixote and Le Corsaire.

Corella joined American Ballet Theatre as a Soloist in April 1995 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in August, 1996. His repertoire with ABT includes Aktaion in Artemis, Solor in La Bayadère, the title role in Billy the Kid, the Prince in Cinderella, Franz in Coppélia, Conrad, Ali, the Slave and Birbanto in Le Corsaire, Basilio in Don Quixote, the "turning boy" and the leading role in Études, ...

Alexei Aqoudine

alexei_aqoudine.jpgBorn in Moscow, Russia, Alexei Agoudine began his ballet training at the age of nine at the School of Classical Ballet with Alexandra Markeyeva, Natalie Zolotova, Boris Rahmanin and Gennady Lediakh.

In 1999, at the age of 17, he received a Rudolf Nureyev Scholarship to study at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School. While there, he performed the pas de trios from Swan Lake, the leading role in George Balanchine‰s Allegro Brillante and the pas de deux from Don Quixote, in addition to performing in operas such as A Masked Ball, Rigoletto, Tannhäuser, Don Carlos, Lohengrin and Carmen, among others. In 2001, Agoudine won Second Prize at the International Ballet Competition in Vienna.

Bo Busby

bo_busby.jpgBorn in Newberry, South Carolina, Bo Busby began his ballet training at age four with Ann Brodie of the Calvert-Brodie Studios in Columbia, South Carolina. At 14, Busby received a full scholarship to the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida, where he trained under Oliver Pardina, Victoria Schneider and Svetlana Osiyeva for three years. At 16, Busby received the Best Male Dancer award at the 2000 Youth America Grand Prix, and, in 2001, he was awarded the prestigious Youth America Grand Prix title.

Busby has attended summer programs at the School of American Ballet, Houston Ballet and the Stuttgart Academy in Germany. While in Germany, Busby performed the Lensky/Olga pas de deux from John Cranko‰s Onegin and appeared in the Stuttgart Ballet‰s performances of The Sleeping Beauty featuring Vladimir Malakhov and Lucia Laccara.

Busby joined ABT‰s Studio Company in 2001 and, in April 2003, joined American Ballet Theatre‰s corps de ballet.

Buck Collins

buck_collins.jpgBorn in Rumson, New Jersey, Buck Collins trained on full scholarship at the School of American Ballet from 1989-1996 where his teachers included Stanley Williams and David Howard. Prior to joining American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet in 2002, Collins danced with Den Norske Opera from 1997-2001 and with Boston Ballet from 2001-2002. His repertoire included the Pas de Cinq in August Bournonville‰s A Folk Story, set by Dinna Bjorn, the Red Boy in Jiri Kylian‰s Forgotten Lands, a featured role in Rudi Van Dantzig‰s Ginastera, the pas de trios in Michael Pink‰s Giselle, one of the two sailors in Stanton Welch‰s Madame Butterfly, Blue Boy in Robert Sand‰s A Midsummer Night‰s Dream and the Mandolin Dancer in Michael Corder‰s Romeo and Juliet.

Collins repertoire with American Ballet Theatre includes roles in all of the Company‰s full-length ballets.

Misty Copeland

misty_copeland.jpgBorn in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in San Pedro, California, Misty Copeland began her ballet studies at the age of 13 at the San Pedro Dance Center. At the age of fifteen she won first place in the Music Center Spotlight Awards. She then began her studies at the Lauridsen Ballet Center. Copeland has studied at the San Francisco Ballet School and American Ballet Theatre's Summer Intensive on full scholarship and was declared ABT's National Coca-Cola Scholar in 2000. She has danced Kitri in Don Quixote and the Sugar Plum Fairy and Clara in The Nutcracker.

Copeland joined ABT's Studio Company in September 2000 and then joined American Ballet Theatre as a member of the corps de ballet in April 2001. Her roles with the Company include a Lead D'Jampe in La Bayadère, a cygnet and the Hungarian Princess in Swan Lake, leading roles in Sechs Tänze, Within You Without You: A Tribute to George Harrison and workwithinwork and featured roles in Amazed in Burning Dreams, Gong and HereAfter.

Carmen Corella

carmen_corella.jpgBorn in Madrid, Spain, Carmen Corella received her dance training at the Victor Ullate School of Dance from 1986 to 1990 and later joined the company, where she danced until 1995.

At the Victor Ullate Ballet she performed soloist and principal roles in such works at Nils Crystie‰s Before Nightfall, Hans van Manen‰s Grosse Fugue, Rudy van Dantzig‰s Four Last Songs, Victor Ullate‰s El Amor Brujo, and George Balanchine‰s Allegro Brillante, Concerto Barroco and Theme and Variations.

In March 1996, Corella was a finalist in the Second Nureyev International Ballet Competition held in Budapest, Hungary. In August 1996, she joined the Pennsylvania Ballet where she danced such soloist roles as the Energy Fairy in The Sleeping Beauty, Prayer in Coppélia and in George Balanchine‰s Who Cares? and Divertimento No. 15.

Kenneth Easter

kenneth_easter.jpgBorn in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Kenneth Easter began his training in 1984 at Palm Beach Center in Florida. He continued his studies at summer programs for Eglevsky Ballet, American Theatre Dance Workshop, Houston Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet, San Francisco Ballet and Boston Ballet.

In 1992, as a senior student at the San Francisco Ballet School, he danced with the San Francisco Ballet. In 1994, he joined Boston Ballet where he performed in The Nutcracker, Coppélia, Giselle and Merce Cunningham‰s Breakers.

Easter was a soloist with Miami City Ballet from 1995 to 2002. His repertory with the company included Grand Pas Classique, the Black Swan pas de deux...
